Job description: 

Our client provides specialist engineering services to the energy sector and has a strong market position in a fragmented market place in which there will be considerable future investment both from the private sector and government bodies. With a strong balance sheet and ambitious shareholders it seeks to appoint a highly capable Finance Director to provide a “ best in class “ finance function and a platform to both support and challenge executive decision making.


The remit is to resurrect the finance function and develop a function conscious of its governance responsibilities but empathetic with the other  commercial functions and the day to day challenges they face. The successful candidate will be capable of contributing on a wider basis as a board director but first and foremost will be on top of the numbers and be able to stand rigorous challenge from well regarded and highly ambitious shareholders. Through a small central team the Finance Director will be able to demonstrate having previously built a finance function that has impacted on the operational performance and efficiency of a business and will quickly understand the business’s key drivers. He/she will provide financial leadership and commercial and strategic contribution.


The individual to be appointed will be academically and analytically excellent and will have well developed interpersonal skills to be able to build relationships across all areas of the business’s activities. Good attention to detail together with the commercial gravitas and credibility to stand rigorous challenge from ambitious shareholders is taken as read. The Finance Director will be both challenging and supportive, comfortable in a collegiate environment and will take finance to the heart of the business agenda. First and foremost and pivotal is the provision of a first class finance function to support and challenge the business.
