Gregory Distribution Limited www.gdl.uk.com is a leading, quality, third party provider with an excellent reputation and a blue-chip client-base.  Successfully operating for almost 100 years, they are now “changing gear” through acquisition and organic development as they transition into a larger entity.  Hot off the press, is their recent successful major strategic Scottish acquisition. They expect to continue their expansion in the coming years – developing a truly national footprint … with the attendant restructuring needs attached.  As a consequence, they seek a commercial, customer facing, statutory director who is a proactive logistics leader to drive both divisional and group profit growth, in a controlled and measured manner.

The role will bring an additional dynamic to the Management Board whilst building a new Division, assembled around a mixture of loyal, historic and newer clients – starting with the “critical mass” of a £25m contract stream but with expectations of £50m plus in the short and medium term. The remit is to drive controlled, profitable growth – optimising mix re price, margin, cost, service and resource allocation. The responsibility is to build strong, lasting, mutually rewarding and sustainable client relationships, through a clear understanding of their business and needs while driving a culture of “continuous improvement, customer service and margin”. The requirement is to agree commercials, consistently achieve client service levels, deliver on profitability targets and drive a culture of employee engagement and people development. The reporting is singularly to the MD (with exposure to the Chair) and peer group-wise to the Management Board (of which you will be a member).

Talent, capability and ability to grow with the business are more critical than qualification but IQ and EQ are essential … therefore, graduate level education and professional qualifications are desirable.  You are a significant third party fulfilment director with a customer-facing bias, and experience of leading multiple sites.  You are MI/IT and financially literate – with a mix of line, project and client management skills.  You are a leader as well as a manager – inclusive in style but decisive and incisive in focus.  As well as blue-chip corporate experience, start-up and post-event integration exposure is desirable.  A tall order but in these changing times, not everyone is “changing gear” to grow and succeed, not everyone has the clarity of thought, leadership and client profile with the strength of character and commerciality to do this.  Gregory’s do – do you?  The prospects are genuinely as good as you are!
