BRISTOL BASED…PROACTIVE GROUNDS OPERATIONS MANAGER – c.£50k package
"Literally keeping a Level Playing Field"
GLOUCESTERSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB - (glosccc.co.uk)
The Club have a busy 2019 in the run up to their 150th anniversary in 2020, hosting major international events like the Men’s Cricket World Cup and the Women’s Ashes ‘T’ 20, on top of the normal programme. Bluntly, the Grounds Ops Manager is “mission-critical”, he or she delivers the match-days. Their role is crucial to what happens on and off the pitch (as well as for the pitch itself).
They seek a proactive professional who will set and deliver the strategy for all operational areas of match-day planning and management. To be “the go” to delivery person within the senior leadership team for all facilities, fulfilment, security and support. It encompasses IT, the ground (inc. the playing surface) preparation, insurance, regulatory and licence requirements (in tandem with being the responsible person for employee, player and spectator welfare). This is about the customer journey and the match experience, but it is also about compliance, HSE and security being critical hygiene factors without which the sport can’t be enjoyed and the customer experience will be impaired. It requires the ability to deliver in a real time pressured environment, to plan and be prepared for every eventuality and to deliver it to budget (time, cost and quality) within the Club’s working programme and Business Plan.
Capability is more important than qualification, critically a ‘cool head’ and common sense are essential, planning and organisation are at the core, but the ability to take people with you to deliver on the day, is the special factor that makes this the “stand out” role. As such, experience of major sporting events specifically, professional sport in general and direct exposure to national sports governing bodies in particular, are vital to the post-holder’s currency and credibility. This is not a 9-5 job or a 5 day a week job, The County Ground is a major event venue for other activities outside of cricket, therefore evening and weekend work will go with the territory. It’s a big ask. It is probably essential to really love cricket, to understand the Club’s place in sport and the broader community…an exceptional job for an exceptional person, to literally ‘”keep a level playing field”.
