YTL Developments UK is part of the Malaysian owned, international YTL Group. The group has net assets in excess of £30bn (with UK assets of £3bn) and operates primarily in Asia, the UK and Australia. In Asia, YTL is a major real estate developer with its own development and construction capability.
YTL Developments UK was started some two years ago with the intention that it will become a major player in the UK residential and commercial development market. The business is based in Bristol where its first project is the redevelopment of the 355 acre Filton airfield in north Bristol, for residential and commercial use. The development has outline planning for 2675 homes and 62 acres of commercial space, with three schools, community facilities, a town centre and new railway station. The master planning of the site has been undertaken by Allies & Morrison, with additional work on the public realm by Gehl Associates. Connectivity is a key part of the development, with a direct rail link to central Bristol, interchange for the dedicated Metrobus route, plus linkages to the motorway network.
The YTL philosophy is to build exceptional homes with excellent public realm and a focus on sustainability and smart technology. This will be the flagship development to establish YTL in the UK market. Alongside the airfield redevelopment, YTL will be repurposing the giant Brabazon hangars into a new entertainment and leisure complex. The combined development will create an exciting new residential, commercial and entertainment area for north Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
The Role is to lead/manage the commercial function, developing and implementing strategy, whilst driving operational prowess by building and developing the team to deliver the commerciality required throughout the project. The remit is to assess, review/mitigate commercial & contractual risk whilst supporting order generation driving budgeted revenue and operating profit (via maximising gross margin on contracts). The responsibility is to deliver the Board mandate by providing inclusive, but robust leadership, commercial definition and insight, and the establishment of a professional performance culture setting the tone/values and culture of YTL’s mission and vision… with all stakeholders, board members, leadership peers and staff. The requirement is for an experienced construction industry expert with a blue-chip pedigree in contracts/commercial management on large scale projects… managing teams, internal and external relationships and commercial delivery to time cost and quality. Technical excellence is a given, you will be a graduate member of a relevant professional body with extensive CPE/PQE.
