Bristol Zoological Society is embarking on a significant period of transformation including the redevelopment of the much-loved Bristol Zoo Gardens and the development of a new Bristol Zoo at the 136-acre Wild Place Project site. Bristol Zoo Gardens will close to visitors in late 2022 and move to the Wild Place Project site to open in 2024.
Never has such a significant transformation taken place in the Society’s 185-year history and this represents an extraordinary opportunity for the Society to not only establish a world-class zoo for Bristol but also to ensure that through the transformation programme that the organisation as a whole is fit-for-purpose and best placed to achieve its charitable mission and vision for the long-term.
The Commercial Director’s role is pivotal in shaping the new Bristol Zoo in this period of transition whilst leading, developing and then managing the commercial strategy, visitor operations and public proposition through a significant period of change. Throughout, this role will ensure that the visitor proposition remains engaging and inspiring, whilst commercial revenues and profits are protected.
Candidates will be commercial professionals with experience gained in the leisure and hospitality sector, preferably within a visitor/tourist attraction. You will need excellent stakeholder management, first rate communication skills matched to the ability to be innovative in spotting commercial opportunities. In addition, you must be positive about change and committed to implementing strategies which will benefit visitors for generations.
