Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) is a charity, undertaking innovative, cutting-edge marine research, allowing society to benefit from clean, productive, biologically diverse seas, now and for future generations.  PML is renowned on the national and international stage, across many forums and has a successful record of accomplishment with partners across UK government, European programmes, inter-governmental agencies, research organisations, and global initiatives over the last two decades.

 

As a Trustee of PML you will have specific responsibilities, such as always acting in the best interests of the charity, maintaining financial sustainability, assisting PML at both strategic and tactical level, helping PML to understand risk in all its various forms.  In addition, part of a Trustee’s role is to both challenge and support the Chief Executive and the Executive Team.  

 

As a PML Audit Trustee you will have the following additional key responsibilities:

 

a)    Active membership of PML’s Audit and Finance Committee.

b)    Ensuring that PML has all the appropriate financial controls in place. 

c)    Ensuring that all financial reports produced are relevant to the charity and provide the

       Trustees with meaningful information. 

d)    Helping PML to have and maintain appropriate levels of corporate governance. 

 

Candidates will be qualified accountants who are working at Director level and have some exposure to the third sector, along with an understanding of investments.  Your third sector values are a given, but you must be able to demonstrate that you can work at a strategic level and also have the communication skills to be effective at all levels.  You must be a team player.
