Finance Director

Job reference:

Employment type:
Salary and benefits:
Competitive Package
Client name:
Shiner Limited
Job description:

Our client, Shiner Limited ( is a long established private company with a turnover of £25m plus per annum.  Over time they have built a reputation for quality, service and reliability and are viewed as a market leader in their field with an enviable reputation for quality and innovation.  Their vision is to connect with, excite and inspire whilst promoting an active lifestyle through their portfolio of global brands and they are one of the EU’s leading core skate board distributors with over 40 years heritage and experience.

This key role will be the ‘engine room’ of finance, driving and managing MIS to produce monthly management and annual statutory accounts in a meaningful and timely fashion.  The remit covers the business planning and budgetary control cycle/aspects in addition to the monitoring of performance trends and commercial analysis – it is vital that the Directors are provided with strong control and robust reporting during a challenging period and increasing complexity in the retail landscape.

Their need is therefore strategic, tactical and operational in its breadth. There is a need to proactively engage management within the business, establishing key drivers and KPI’s, improving efficiency protecting/maintaining margin and improving debtor days, etc.  You will drive both systems and process improvement, developing a can do/value-add finance culture that enables business development.

Technical capability is a given - commercial acumen is the key.  It is likely that you are a proven SME Finance Director and previous exposure to multi-channel retail, leisure or related sectors would be advantageous but not essential.  You understand the Owner-Managed Business dynamics, love the thrill of the commercial chase, but in a controlled enterprising way.  You set, but can re-prioritise, a disciplined financial agenda ie. you ensure that the annual budget is owned by the Directors and performance monitor the outputs to measure and control the results.  You understand the time-value of money, cash, capital profit/margin, yield and return.  You balance delegation with personal action and believe in the benefit of well managed teams.
